Obverse: An elegant goddess Lakshmi, designed in conjunction with Nilesh Kabaria of the Cardiff Swaminarayan Temple. The goddess pours coins into a bowl, flanked by elephants holding lotus flowers, a symbol of wealth and purity.
Reverse: The Royal Mint’s shield is featured, along with the weight (1 gram), purity (999.9) and a unique serial number, often accompanied by a lotus flower.
Background
Issuance: The Lakshmi theme was introduced in 2021 as part of the Royal Mint’s Diwali series and expanded to include a range of weights, including 1 gram.
Significance: Celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali (Lights), this is the first time a Hindu deity has appeared on a Royal Mint gold bar. It makes a special gift, symbolizing good luck and prosperity.
Packaging: The coin comes in a tamper-proof henna-patterned packaging with a red inspection card to guarantee weight and purity.
